The Newton Abbot Community Interest Company earlier this year announced their plans to improve the area around the roundabout.
last Thursday marked the start of the project to enhance the gateway into the town as members of the public and the local CIC were out digging the first of the planned flower beds on Penn Inn Island.
Councillor Phil Bullivant, alongside his Conservative colleague Councillor Reg Winsor had in 2017 carried out clearance work on the island following the completion of the South Devon Link Road and the failure of the planted wild flower meadow.
Councillor Bullivant said: “Funds were raised from local businesses and a new bench installed and it was recognised that the project would benefit from a wider community involvement and the local CIC invited to take over the project.”
Lynn McElheron, chairman of Newton Abbot CIC, had previously added: “The CIC’s plans for Penn Inn roundabout will provide improvements which are much needed after the roadworks.”
