Traditional May Day celebration with a parade, maypole dancing, crowning of the May Queen, and traditional village games

More Information (Radio Exe is not responsible for external websites)

This year's Lustleigh May Day will take place on Saturday 4 May 2024 in the village of Lustleigh, named as one of the UK's prettiest villages.

Every year, the village puts on a traditional May Day celebration including Maypole dancing, and leading up to the crowning of the May Queen, whose name is then engraved forever in the granite rock of the village orchard.

This year's May Queen is Bridie Gregson, who has danced around the maypole for six years, and was attendant to last year's Queen.

The celebration is free, and open to the public from 1pm. Visitors can expect to enjoy watching the children parade around the village led by the band and town crier, before returning to the village orchard where everyone can enjoy traditional fairground games, morris dancing, music, and cream teas.

Lustleigh children will perform maypole dances in front of the impressive granite May Day rock and throne, where the names of past Queens are engraved, and where Bridie will be crowned as the 2024 Lustleigh May Queen.
