At last! Barnstaple's bus station links directly with railway

Anyone know how to drive this thing? (image courtesy: Devon County Council)

Previously you'd need two buses or a long walk

A North Devon bus service is being enhanced to add a connection between Barnstaples bus and railway stations.

The county council is stumping up more cash to provide more buses so that passengers no longer have to change to another bus service or face a 20-minute walk to travel between the stations.

The taxpayer-subsidised 309/310 service runs from Barnstaple to Lynmouth, Lynton, Parracombe and Bratton Fleming (and back again!).

Councillor Andrea Davis, Devon County Council Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Environment and Transport, said: “It has always been our aspiration to improve the connectivity of the route with the Tarka Line at Barnstaple Station, but it’s never been possible until now, thanks to this extra funding. We’re keen to improve the integration between bus and rail services and this enhancement can benefit communities and businesses right along this route.”

Filers operates the service, which currently operates Monday to Saturday (except bank holidays). However, the new service will operate with a limited service on Sundays & Bank Holidays through the summer until 30 October.
