Council funding to move business improvement scheme forward

City councillors are moving forward with their proposal to get companies in Exeter's central area on board to create a Business Improvement District.

It would involve traders putting the equivalent of around one per cent of their business rates into a kitty, and that fund is then used to pay for improvements to the city centre which will be good for their business.

Last night a committee agreed to put 25 thousand pounds towards the formal process of setting up a B-I-D, which has to be approved by a ballot.
