Fire at South Devon pub

Appliances from across the county helped to put out the fire in Paignton

Fire crews tackled a blaze above the Lime Tree Pub in Paignton yesterday evening [27 July].

They received over 30 calls from the public after it reportedly broke out in the first floor of the building on Dartmouth Road.

The premises was evacuated before the blaze, which started accidentally, spread to the roof.

Appliances from across the county helped to put out the fire by 10.15pm, but the building is said to be badly damaged.

A statement by Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue said:  "In total crews used various ladders, safe working at heights equipment, 6 breathing apparatus, 4 main jets, 2 hose reel jets, an aerial ladder platform and 4 thermal imaging cameras.

"All crews have now come away from the incident but a revisit has been scheduled to check for hotspots. The fire, which started accidentally, caused 50% fire damage and 100% smoke and heat damage to the whole building."

Officers added that there were no casualties.
