Local army reserves welcome confirmation of their role

The commanding officer of Exeter's Six Rifles reservists says the Government's announcement on part-time troops clarifies and confirms the way forward. .

Yesterday the defence secretary Philip Hammond renamed the Territorial Army as the Army Reserve and said it would expand to 30 thousand personnel by 2018, with a large budget for equipment and training.

He's also outlined increases to pay and pensions, and support for employers who take on reservists.

Lieutenant Colonel Neville Holmes says Six Rifles have been working closely with their Army counterparts the First Battalion for years, which has included some challenging deployments in war zones, and the recent joint training exercise in Cyprus.
