More police front desks open across Devon

And more are planned too

The drive to provide communities in East Devon with more ways to contact the police will be highlighted by a formal opening event at Honiton police station this week.

Police and Crime Commissioner, Alison Hernandez, promised to open 18 Police Enquiry Offices by 2025 and 13 of these are already up and running with others to follow.

The front office at Honiton will host a ribbon-cutting event on Tuesday, February 20 to celebrate progress, with community leaders and politicians attending.

The station at 167 High Street, Honiton, has enquiry officers available Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm, closed on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

Police station front desks provide walk-in services for the public to receive assistance with crime reporting, prevention advice, and accessing victim services from trained staff.

The first PEO to reopen was in Newquay in 2020, followed by Tiverton, Newton Abbot, Truro, Falmouth, Penzance, and Bude PEOs in 2021 and 2022.

Since October 2023, Okehampton, Ilfracombe, Honiton, Kingsbridge, Devonport and Looe have also opened.

Chief Constable, Jim Colwell, says “Improving the visibility and accessibility of Devon & Cornwall Police is a priority for the Force.”

PCC Alison Hernandez plans to open Police Enquiry Offices in Exeter, Tavistock, Ivybridge, and Liskeard by 2025.

Plans for a PEO in Exmouth are also in progress without a set opening date.

PCC Hernandez announced that communities in the Honiton area can now access policing services closer to home for reporting crimes or seeking advice.

A total of 28 police stations across Devon and Cornwall will have front offices when the project is complete.
