Patrols stepped up to tackle big issues

Officers from several teams were out in Exmouth on Saturday 27 April to crack down on anti-social behaviour and shoplifting.

Patrols were increased to reassure the public and make arrests following recent incidents of disorder by youths.

Two suspects were arrested for shoplifting and related offences.

One suspect faces charges for shoplifting and public order crimes, and has been summoned to court.

The second suspect was charged with multiple offences including shoplifting, theft, fraud, and handling stolen goods.

He spent a night in police custody and appeared in court the next day, and is now on bail until mid-June.

Exmouth Sector Inspector Grant Leitch explained: “Our neighbourhood policing teams adopt a flexible approach to allocate resources effectively for better results in addressing community concerns.

“The aim of the high visibility officer patrols on Saturday was to engage with the public, as well as reassure retailers and address any criminality or anti-social behaviour which was encountered.”

Regular events are held for residents to go and talk to officers face to face and ask questions or raise any concerns they may have.

Local people can also pick up crime prevention advice and the team is keen for more attendees.
