One toaster. Six fire engines.
Six engines were called to a fire in the centre of Exeter on Bank Holiday Monday [13 April], which was caused by a toaster.
Firefighters were called to a flat on New North Road, by the prison, just after 7pm.
The fire was quickly extinguished and nobody was hurt, though the flat did suffer some damage.
In a statement Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue added: “On arrival the crews confirmed that there was a fire within a first floor flat involving a toaster.
“Two breathing apparatus wearers used a hose reel jet and a dry powder extinguisher on the fire. A positive pressure ventilation fan was used to clear the smoke and ventilate the flat.
“The fire was quickly extinguished and nobody was hurt. The kitchen itself sustained approximately 20 percent damage from fire and the remainder of the flat sustained light smoke damage."
