6,000 units being rolled out
South West Water is rolling out innovative leak detection technology across the region to tackle customer leaks head-on.
The water company plans to send 6,000 LeakBots to customers in Devon and Cornwall next month to reduce leaks. The trial will last six months and may expand if successful.
LeakBots are devices that detect internal leaks in customers' properties by monitoring water flow near the internal stop tap and sending alerts to the customer's smartphone.
You attach them to your water pipe and if a leak is detected and customers are unable to find and fix it - they can also send out an engineer to undertake the repair, free of charge.
The trial is part of South West Water’s work to reduce leaks in the area and is part of a new campaign to support customers in becoming more water efficient.
The firm is increasing leak detection by fixing around 2,000 leaks monthly. They employ innovative methods like satellite technology, drones, and detection dogs to locate leaks efficiently.
Craig Foster, Chief Executive Officer at Ondo, the company behind LeakBot, said: “Previous trials have achieved a 60% reduction in water leaks. A roll-out with South West Water will allow us to help prevent domestic leaks and deploy thousands of units to reduce waste.
