"Amazing" response to 'Feed Our Community'

Exeter student establishes food scheme

In six weeks after being touched by an appeal by a young Exeter woman for help finding a food bank, an Exeter University student has delivered more than 2,500 food packages.

Maia Thomas, 21, says her community service called 'Feed Our Community' is her latest project. Last year she was a leader in organising Devon vigils for Black Lives Matter - and a contributor to a Radio Exe podcast on the subject of racism in the county, which you can access here: https://bit.ly/3tKPRJR

Ms Thomas believes there's a bigger gap to fill to help people impacted by the pandemic than she can fulfil herself. Local businesses have supported the food parcel project, and the response from people helped out is said to be "amazing."

Jess Baker was one of the first to be helped by the service. She sold her sofa and washing machine in order to be able to pay her rent, but didn't have enough left over for fuel and food.
