They used a false identity
A Devon and Cornwall Police officer has been fired after using a false identity and using the force's database improperly.
The cop, who isn't being named because of their current state of mental health, was found to have "breached the standards appropriate to the conduct of a police officer."
In a three-day hearing, a disciplinary panel heard about the officer's "discreditable conduct" and how they had contacted members of the public for reasons not relating to policing and using a false identity.
They were sacked last month and their details will now be submitted to the College of Policing Barred List, preventing them from working within policing.
Head of professional standards, detective superintendent Paul Kessell, said: “On this occasion the behaviour of the officer fell below the standards expected within policing.
"Through their actions, the officer undermined the public’s trust and confidence in the police force and did not fulfil their duties and responsibilities.
“Such behaviour will not be tolerated within policing and the decision made by the independent chair is that the officer was dismissed without notice.”
