'Suspicious' Budleigh Salterton fire starts in bin

So did others recent fires in the area

A fire in the early hours of Friday morning at a property in Greenaway Lane, Budleigh Salterton, began in wheelie bins to the front of the building.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue were called just before 3am to the blaze, sending appliances from Exmouth and Sidmouth. Budleigh Salterton's fire station closed earlier this year.

As well as affecting the bins, the fire also damaged part of the front of the building and caused smoke logging in two flats which had to be evacuated.

At 4.15 am police were called too. They're currently treating the fire as suspicious. Their enquiries and those of the fire service are continuing and a police guard is at the scene. Scene of crime officers and CID will work on the investigation. Anyone who witnessed anything or has information that might help should call police on 101 and quote log 114.

Recent fires at Exmouth Pavilion, the Bumble and Bee cafe, and a shop in the Parade, Exmouth also began in outside bins. Together with two further fires, including one at Budleigh Salterton Football Club, the blazes are being linked. Police say they need to catch the perpetrator who is putting lives at risk.
