Up to 2,850 pupils could then attend

Exmouth Community College is getting a major new improvement, in the form of a three-storey teaching block at the Green Close site.

It's going to take more than two years to complete the main construction of the building, which will include a large hall that can be used as a theatre space.

Main contractor BAM says construction has needed a considerable amount of planning to keep the existing buildings live whilst the demolition and new build construction is conducted.

Once finished in September 2023, the school, already one of the largest in Europe, across its two key sites on Gypsy Lane and Green Close, will have capacity for up to 2,850 pupils.

Project Manager for BAM Chris Scoins is leading the build, and he said: “Communication is key on a project like this and we have developed a close, collaborative relationship with both the client and the school to promote good working relationships.  With the successful completion of the phase one works on time we are now progressing with main construction.”

BAM aims to host a series of work experience placements during construction, as well as support one student on a 45-week T-level placement.
