The Home Office has admitted that flawed data was used to work out the police funding formula currently being fiercely opposed by Devon and Cornwall's police and crime commissioner.
In a letter to Tony Hogg, a senior official says some of the information used to calculate the allocations was out of date - but that their final decision on funding will be based on updated figures.
The discovery of the error will slightly lessen the size of the cuts facing Devon and Cornwall police - but Mr Hogg and other commissioners say the whole process is a shambles and should be halted.
