WATCH: A bit of cheese is stuck
Exporters are getting mentors to help them navigate through the process, which has changed since Brexit.
EU countries, still the UK's biggest market, have become more difficult to trade with, but the government is attempting to open access to others.
Devon farming big cheese Mary Quicke, who's dairy herd at Newton St Cyres help her produce award-winning cheeses, is becoming one of the mentors.
She says the situation has become really hard and is getting to the point where she may not be able to do direct exports in future. "We've had cheese that's taken four weeks to leave here, with a vet's certificate to Japan and then it sits at customs at Tokyo for three weeks" she explains.
The government's upbeat though. Export minister Graham Stuart, in Devon to launch the mentoring scheme. "It's only by boosting export markets...that you'll be able to maximise your income and sustain the business going forward and bring the prosperity and employment which naturally follows," he says.
