Devon people on the King's new year honours list

Wetherspoons founder receives knighthood

Wetherspoon founder Tim Martin and chief executive of the Met Office Professor Penelope Clare Endersby are among those included on the New Year Honours list in Devon.

Tim Martin, from Exeter, is the founder and chair of Wetherspoons and receives a knighthood for his services to hospitality and culture. He owns more than 800 pubs and hotels across the UK, employing more than 43,000 people.

Professor Penelope Clare Endersby, the chief executive of the Met Office, is appointed a CBE for services to meteorology, defence science and technology. 

Catherine Jane Uttley Dovey is the co-founder of the Beacon Collaborative and director of the Rosa Fund. She has been appointed a CBE for services to philanthropy, to women and girls, to the arts and to the Tiverton economy. 

A man from Totnes, from the Financial Markets Standards Board, has also been appointed a CBE. John Mark Yallop from Ivybridge receives the CBE for services to the financial sector and charity.

The founder and chief executive of the creation station, Sarah Jane Cressall has been appointed an OBE for services to creativity in education, entertainment and business.

Other honours from Devon include:

Amy Louise Doncaster, deputy director of strategy and future design at the Department for Work and Pensions, appointed OBE for public service.(Buckfastleigh)

Col (Rtd) Brian Mark Gorski appointed OBE for services to museums. (South Molton)

Professor Peter Alister Stott, deputy head of climate science and science fellow at the Met Office, appointed MBE for services to climate science. (Exeter)

Terence Gerry, who has led the Plymouth Area Police Choir since 1986, was awarded BEM for services to the community. (Plymouth)

Hayley Watson was awarded a BEM for services to the community. (Exmouth)

Ian John Barnaby was awarded a BEM for voluntary services to the RNLI and navigator at Torbay Lifeboat Station. (Brixham) 

Terence Gerry, who has led the Plymouth Area Police Choir since 1986, was awarded a BEM for services to the community. (Plymouth)

Jacqueline Ann Hendra awarded a BEM for services to people with disabilities. (Plympton)

Shelley Jane Coleman, founder of the Plymouth Ladies Charity was awarded a BEM for services to the community. (Plymouth)

Ann Doreen May Doody was awarded a BEM for services to the community. (Ilfracombe)

John Gabriel Monaghan, founder of Fire Aid Nepal, was awarded a BEM for services to emergency and disaster response and communities in Nepal. (Devon)

Cheryl Barbara Smith was awarded a BEM for services to young people. (Plymouth)

Gwendoline May Kingdon was awarded a BEM for services to the community. (South Molton)

Ian Robert Skinner was awarded a BEM for services to the community. (Sidmouth)
