Devon police in caravan crackdown

They'll tow unroadworthy vehicles

Devon and Cornwall Police have launched a campaign urging caravan and trailer owners to undertake safety checks before hitting the road.
 
As part of the Vision Zero South West road safety partnership, they want to make the region’s roads free of serious and fatal collisions by 2040. They believe this summer in particular will see an increased number of staycations using campervans and caravans.
 
Alliance MPC Phil Saundercock from Devon and Cornwall Police says: “naturally this will lead to a large number of caravan users visiting Devon and Cornwall, but before you travel you must make sure that you have undertaken all necessary safety checks.”
 
Highways England, The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency, and officers from the Alliance Roads Policing Team will be carrying out mobile patrols and towing away potentially unroadworthy vehicles. On Friday 28 May, caravan and trailer check sites will also be in operation near Tiverton.
 
MPC Saundercock adds: “Officers will be on the road, in both marked and unmarked cars to spot any issues and to educate those pulling caravans and trailers.” If your caravan is not roadworthy, you run the risk of having points added to your license, a fine from court, or your vehicle being seized.
