Exeter's R D & E hospital is being inspected by the Care Quality Commission this week.
A team of more than 40 people will spend two and a half days on site looking at areas including surgical, out-patients, intensive care and emergency.
The team have already invited feedback from users of the hospital which will help them decide which areas need closer scrutiny.
