Exeter's leisure centres set to reopen

Nearly reopen, but don't expect to swim at the Riverside

Dates revealed

Exeter’s leisure centres are set to reopen in the coming weeks following work to ensure they are safe in the covid world.

The centres have been brought back under the management of the city council, after a number of years outsourced to a private contractor.

The plan is to reopen them as follows, provided the necessary covid security measures are complete:
·         ISCA Centre and Exeter Arena – 28 September
·         Wonford Sports Centre and Northbrook Swimming Pool – 5 October
·         Pyramids Swimming Pool and Riverside (dry-side) – 12 October

Current memberships were frozen during lockdown. These were opened up again on 1 September, but there will be no charge for existing members until at least 1 January 2021. That means current members can pre-book to use the centres until the end of the year free of charge.

Council Leader Phil Bialyk said: “This is a fresh start for our leisure centres, and it is great that the service has been taken back in-house by the Council. Our aim is to create top class facilities for the people of Exeter, as part of our drive to remain one of the healthiest and most active locations in the country.”
