Devon's fire service are urging everyone to check their smoke alarms when they put their clocks back this weekend.
It's part of a national campaign to remind people of the importance of a properly functioning alarm.
Community safety officer Brian Capello says many lives have been lost because people hadn't checked they were working properly.
