The Exeter airline Flybe has defended itself after sparking a complaint for promoting its new London service at the city's main railway station. Station staff reported the marketing team to British Transport Police.
In the run-up to this week's launch of the London air link, promotional staff visited the station to hand out free coffee and advertise the flights as an alternative to rail travel.
But First Great Western objected, saying they were there without permission and their vehicle was causing an obstruction.
In a statement the rail company said they welcome healthy competition but the Flybe promoters had inadvertently strayed onto their property.
Flybe said it was regrettable that in a free market, First Great Western found it necessary to call in the police to protect themselves from staff offering free coffee in a public space.
