A debt advice charity says hundreds of people in Exeter have contacted it for help - after low incomes and rising living costs pushed them into borrowing unmanageable amounts of money. .
The charity Step Change says five hundred and 80 people called its helpline in the first six months of the year and on average they owed nearly 15 and a half thousand pounds.
Many had waited a year before seeking advice during which time the problems had got worse.. anyone running into debt is urged to ask for expert help as soon as possible
