Inquest into death from hospital norovirus

An inquest takes place today into the death of a Silverton woman who contracted norovirus after being admitted to hospital for a minor injury.

86 year old Christine Walker was admitted to Cheltenham General hospital last March after bruising her elbow in a fall, and was kept in for monitoring.

However after being transferred to a different ward she apparently wasn't seen by a doctor for three days ... and during that time she contracted the norovirus.

Her condition deteriorated and she was placed on an 'end of life' care system in which food, water and medicines are gradually withdrawn ...  her family claim this was done without their consent, but the hospital says they were consulted.

The family are being represented at the inquest by a medical negligence specialist with Exeter lawyers Michelmores.
