Jail for North Devon knife attackers

Callum Pillman and Shaun Taylor are starting long prison sentences

Teenage victim was 'hanging to life'

Two men who robbed a teenager in a drugs deal are starting long prison sentences.

Shaun Taylor, 29, from Barnstaple and Callum Pillman, 21, of Bideford arranged to meet 19-year-old Marcus Goold to buy cocaine in a Billlescombe Park in Ilfracombe on 23 January.

They turned up in black hoodies and balaclavas and stabbed their victim five times before they were chased off by a friend of Mr Goold.

Exeter Crown Court heard that Mr Goold's life was left "hanging by a thread". His life was only saved because of first aid provided by the first police officer at the scene, Sgt. Dave Thubron.

The teenager has had his spleen and part of his bowel removed.

Mr Taylor and Mr Pillman admitted wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Judge Peter Johnson told the defendants: "You caused near-fatal injuries and left him hanging onto life by a thread. It was violence way in excess of what was needed in order to rob him."

Pillman is starting 11 years, four months in prison. Taylor was sentenced to 10 years, six months.
