Just one person has died in Devon with covid in the latest weekly figures, the lowest total for more than seven months.

Figures from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) for the week ending 9 April, show that one of the 304  deaths registered in the county - in East Devon - had covid-19 on the death certificate.

It is the lowest weekly total in Devon and Cornwall since the week ending 25 September – when no deaths were recorded – and the lowest weekly total for Devon since the first week of October.

It is the second week of the last three in which no deaths in Cornwall were registered – and the third successive week where Torbay and Plymouth have had no deaths related for Covid-19 recorded.

The only death in week 14 (April 3-9) was of one person from East Devon in a hospital – although the figures saw two backdated deaths for week 13 (March 27-April 2) – one in Exeter and East Devon – and one from week 6 (February 6-12) – in West Devon – added.

In total, 1,728 deaths from coronavirus have been registered in Devon and Cornwall: 952 in hospitals, 654 in care homes, 110 at home, five in a hospice, three in a communal establishment and four ‘elsewhere’.
