Man makes it back to shore
Exmouth's inshore lifeboat rushed up the Exe Estuary on Saturday evening following reports of a windsurfer in difficulty.
A number of people had called 999 to report that someone in trouble between the River Exe Cafe and Lower Halsdon Farm near the mouth of the estuary just after 6 p.m.
The lifeboat arrived at the last sighting of the windsurfer around 6.30 p.m. and, following a report that the casualty may have been helped ashore, began a shoreline search of the river. Within five minutes or so, the crew saw someone fitting the description of the windsurfer on shore at Lower Halsdon Farm and a member of the crew went ashore to investigate. Exmouth Coastguard Rescue team were also in attendance.
The casualty was identified, found to be safe and well and the lifeboat was stood down at 6.52 p.m.
