Pedestrian dies after he's hit on A30

Woman arrested and police referred to watchdog

A man has died following a collision on the A30 near Exeter.

Emergency services were called to the incident involving the man and an Audi car on the eastbound carriageway just before the turn off for Exeter Airport at 5am on Saturday 15 July.

The man, who was 26 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The female driver of the car suffered minor injuries which required hospital treatment. She has since been discharged.

Devon and Cornwall Police has made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct following the incident due to prior police contact with the man earlier in the day.

The road was closed whilst investigation work took place. It reopened at around 2.40pm.

A 35-year-old woman from Honiton was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless/inconsiderate driving and has been released under investigation.

The road was closed while officers from the Roads Policing Unit and Forensic Collision Investigation Team examined the scene.
