New signs where teenager was killed

There is no footpath under one side of the Alphington Road bridge

New signs have been installed near a bridge in Exeter where a teenager was killed last year.

19-year-old Emily Brewster was hit by a car under the railway on Alphington Road in December.

The driver, 27-year-old Glenn Miller, was more than twice the drink drive limit and had taken drugs. He was jailed for almost 7 years.

Pedestrians are often still seen walking on the side of the bridge where there is no footpath.

A Devon County Council spokesman said: “The signs and guardrail have been installed to try and deter pedestrians from walking under the bridge. It indicates there is no footpath under the bridge and encourages people to use the nearby pedestrian crossings.”
