Attraction is closed
Police have now confirmed that the person earlier reported as 'seriously injured' in an incident Babbacombe Cliff Railway in Torquay has died.
They say the casualty was declared dead at the scene.
Emergency services were called to the attraction just after 10 a.m. on Sunday.
The person's next of kin have been informed, and emergency services are still at the scene as of Monday morning.
The matter has been referred to the Health and Safety Executive, which is assisting Devon and Cornwall Police with its enquiries.
Oddicombe Beach, Torquay, and road access leading down to it will stay closed until at least Tuesday.
The following areas are affected: the South West Coast Path (SWCP) leading from Babbacombe Beach through to Oddicombe Beach and the SWCP leading from St Marychurch in Torquay down to Oddicombe Beach.
Police have thanked the public for their co-operation and understanding.
