The Exeter-based south west ambulance service has defended its decision to recruit paramedics from Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
It says there's currently a national shortage of suitably qualified staff.
Those selected from abroad will spend up to nine months training and have to undergo English language tests, and will be paired with a mentor.
