A38 near Newton Abbot closed much of Tuesday
A man has been killed after being hit by a tyre that appears to have come off a vehicle on the A38 on Tuesday morning.
The pensioner, in his seventies, was a local man out walking his dog around 10.30 a.m. near the main A38 between the Drumbridges roundabout and Chudleigh Knighton junction near Newton Abbot.
His next of kin have been informed.
The Exeter-bound carriageway from Drumbridges Roundabout was closed until just before 5 p.m. whilst police investigated, with the Plymouth-bound carriageway also shut for a shorter time.
Police say the vehicle involved has been traced and enquiries are being made with the driver.
