Positive start to tourist season

Attractions enjoying half-term boost

Good weather, school holidays and the release from lockdown is making it a great start to the 2021 tourist season, with attractions across Devon reporting high visitor numbers.

With uncertainty about which overseas destinations will be on the government's amber and red lists of countries which UK travellers will either be banned or require quarantining and expensive covid tests on their return, staycations are expected to be the holiday of choice for many this year.

With a blip on Wednesday, Devon's enjoyed a sunshine half-term. That's been good news for attractions such as Crealy, the theme park and resort that sponsors the Radio Exe breakfast show.

Its general manager Josh Haywood says: "People have saved throughout lockdown, so they are spending more. They're really keen to have a great family time, so we're asking people to bring that cash with them - and we're hoping that will be the case for the summer as well."
