Senior Devon cop given Queen's Policing Medal

Named in Her Majesty's birthday's honours list

An assistant chief constable of Devon and Cornwall Police has been awarded the Queen's Policing Medal in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.

Glen Mayhew was appointed assistant chief constable for operations in the force in January and is also the executive lead for specialist uniform operations.

In 2020, he was appointed the gold commander and chair of the strategic co-ordinatiing group managing the response to the pandemic and carried out the role of the gold commander during the G7 summit last year - which was the largest and most complex operation ever undertaken by Devon and Cornwall Police.

ACC Mayhew said: “I am delighted to receive this honour. I am very proud of the role I have played in the policing service and to be part of the policing family working alongside colleagues who work hard to serve our communities every day. To be part of that family is a real privilege.”

The Chief Constable of Devon and Cornwall Police, Shaun Sawyer QPM, said: I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Glen on this wonderful honour which is a reflection of his distinguished police career. He has led vital operations across our Force area such as our response to the Covid-19 pandemic and the G7 Summit. He is widely respected by colleagues and within his own community, where he is a committed volunteer. I am very proud that one of our own police family has been honoured in this way; it is truly deserved.”
