Sinking jet-skier rescued off Exmouth

Beautiful night for a rescue (courtesy: Chris Sims/RNLI)

Faulty machine to blame

A fault on a jet-ski led to a rescue off Exmouth on Sunday evening.

The jet-skier, out enjoying the calm waters off the shore, was properly equipped with radio, lifejacket and wetsuit. But when the machine itself developed a problem, it began to sink on the sandbank, Pole Sands.

The coastguard alerted Exmouth's RNLI, which launched the inshore lifeboat just around 5.50 p.m., locating the jet-skier around 10 minutes late.

The casualty was quickly taken under tow to the safety of shore at Mamhead Slipway, Exmouth and met by members of the Exmouth coastguard rescue team. The single casualty wasn't hurt and did not require medical attention.
