City council to challenge 'village green' bid

A bid to get a piece of land in Exeter registered as a village green is being challenged by the city council.

Councillors will hear today that the registration, applied for by two local residents, would prevent any development on Eastern Fields in Pinhoe.

That would cause a problem for the city council because part of the site is allocated as employment land.. and it also lies across the preferred route of a link road to serve new housing developments near Pinhoe Quarry.

The inquiry is due to be held in March and the council is expecting the legal costs to be around 50 thousand pounds.
