Exeter College launches engineering academy

It partners with Tiverton tech company

A new engineering academy is to open in Devon, the first of its kind in the country.

Exeter College was one of the first providers of T-levels (the T standing for 'technical) when the government introduced them in 2020. Now, in conjunction with an organisation called HepcoMotion, based in Tiverton, the college will open the 'T Level Engineering Academy' this September.

It will cover about 10 T Levels in subjects such as digital production, design and development, and health.

Just 14 places will be available to begin, with successful students  getting at least 40 days of industry placement, a mentor programme, site visits and sessions at the college provided by HepcoMotion.

HepcoMotion is part of a larger group that makes linear motion systems and automation components.

If you're thinking of applying, it's probably worth googling what linear motion systems and automation components are.

Andy Wells, who is head of engineering at Exeter College, said; "The time spent with Hepco will be invaluable and will place our students a head above the rest when venturing into the world of work.

“It is hoped that this Academy will create a pipeline for talent spotting and recruitment; feeding learners directly into jobs in industry."
