Exmouth lifeboat rescues motorboaters

For the second time in a few days, Exmouth's lifeboat has been out to the aid of a vessel bobbing about in the sea without engine power.

At around 10.20 a.m. on Tuesday, the coastguard alerted the RNLI to a motorboat approximately three miles east of Teignmouth that had suffered a cam belt failure. 

The 21-foot motor boat had three occupants, none of whom were hurt. Weather conditions were good. They were towed back to shore by the all-weather lifeboat.

Coxswain Steve Hockings-Thompson said: “This is the second incident our lifeboat has attended involving engine failure this week. It is essential that water users keep their power units properly serviced and in good order and to ensure that communication equipment is in full working condition. Our crew made safe the boat before towing it to Exmouth Marina and we were pleased that this incident resulted in a successful outcome.”  

By 1 p.m. the lifeboat had secured the vessel and its crew at Exmouth and was back ready for service a short time afterwards.
