Exeter Chiefs' star leaves England training camp in Italy for ankle check-up
Jack Nowell injured himself during the Premiership final against Saracens in June. The 26-year-old will continue his rehabilitation in England while the squad are in Treviso until the end of the week (2 August).
Nowell's won 33 caps, scoring 13 tries for his country.
England will begin their Rugby World Cup campaign in Japan against Tonga in Sapporo (22 September) before playing USA Rugby in Kobe (26 September), Argentina in Tokyo (5 October) and France in Yokohama (12 October).
