Licensees to be consulted on 'alcohol tax'

Licensees in Exeter, and mid and east Devon, are to be consulted on plans to introduce a tax on premises selling alcohol after midnight.

The late night levy is imposed by councils on shops and nightspots, with the money going towards policing and street cleaning.

It's one of the measures being proposed by the Police and Crime Commissioner, Tony Hogg, who's promised to tackle binge drinking and alcohol-related offences.
