Lifetime achievement award for nearly 50 years of youth work

An Exmouth man who's helped thousands of youngsters over the course of nearly half a century has been named Lifetime Achiever at the Pride of Devon awards.

The work of Neil Parsons, who started Lympstone Boxing Club in the village hall in 1968 - was honoured at last night's ceremony at the Devon County Show.

He's raised 100 thousand pounds to regenerate the club following a fire in 2013 - and worked with police, probation and schools to help young people channel their energies into sport and competition.

Now Mr Parsons has started a new charity, the Parsons Family Charitable Trust, to provide grants and bursaries so that more youngsters can participate in sport.

It will be launching with a big boxing bill this summer in Exmouth.
