Local NHS defends mental health spend

The NHS serving Exeter and mid and east Devon has defended its spending on mental health services.

Figures provided by the Labour party indicated that the local Clinical Commissioning Group, which serves this area, was putting less than seven per cent of its budget into mental healthcare.

But the CCG says that doesn't take into account the spending in primary care such as GPs' practices - which brings the figure up to nearly 12 per cent.

It also says feedback from local people and organisations is helping to shape its mental healthcare strategy for the next few years, which'll cover a full range of services.
