Travellers camp at Exeter Science Park

Five caravans are currently on the site, which is owned by Devon County Council.

A spokesman for Devon County Council said: “We’re aware of this encampment and will be visiting the group to establish their intentions.”

It is understood this is a different group of travellers to the ones who pitched up at Station Road Playing Fields in Pinhoe at the start of August.

When gypsies/travellers camp on land that they do not own, without the permission of the owner, they are trespassing.

If a negotiated solution is not possible, then private landowners, local authorities and the police all have powers of enforcement to evict.

However, a negotiated solution that avoids confrontation is often the most appropriate way of dealing with a situation.
