Concerns raised over lack of dedicated roads police

Devon and Cornwall currently has no officers exclusively dedicated to traffic policing, after those officers took up a response role in 2011

That means they must also attend immediate calls as well as police roads.
Across England there are fewer traffic officers - as a result of police funding cuts, the number has fallen by an average of 12% over the last five years.
The chair of the Devon and Cornwall Police Federation, Nigel Rabbits, says he understands why the decision was taken, but thinks it has had an impact, since there is no longer such a visible roads policing presence.
