Inconclusive results from Exeter study on volunteering

A study carried out by the University of Exeter Medical School has been looking at the possible physical and mental health benefits of volunteering.

But while recognising that many volunteers do get personal satisfaction out of it, the findings don't conclusively prove that it's good for everyone.

For instance the researchers had to accept that people who are already healthy and enjoy helping others are likely to become volunteers.

And the study could not establish a definite cause and effect link between volunteering and improved mental health.
