Birthing services suspended in Honiton & Okehampton

Women are not going to be able to give birth at Honiton or Okehampton maternity units for at least the next three months.

The Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Trust took the decision to temporarily suspend birth services at the centres in Honiton and Okehampton back in July blaming staff vacancies and unforeseen sickness absence.

The R,D and E Trust say that the situation remains the same and so they are unable to safely run birthing services at Honiton and Okehampton.

They will re-asses the situation in the new year and they have apologised to mums-to-be in the area.

The birth centres will remain open for clinics and midwife care.
