The European Court of Human Rights has ruled that an Exeter nurse did not suffer religious discrimination at work, after being told she could no longer wear a necklace with a crucifix.
Fifty-seven year old Shirley Chaplin took her case to the Strasbourg court after the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Trust said the new-style uniform tunics made it possible for a patient to grab anything worn around the neck.
The Trust said she could wear a cross under her clothing but she felt she was being forced to hide her Christian faith.
Today the court ruled that her rights were not violated - but it's thought she'll appeal against the decision.
