Devon police staff found not guilty in manslaughter trial

A jury has delivered its verdict in the case of three Devon and Cornwall Police officers who were accused of manslaughter after a man died in custody in Exeter.

Custody sergeant Jan Kingshott and detention officers Simon Tansley and Michael Marsden of Devon and Cornwall Police have today been found not guilty of the manslaughter of Thomas Orchard.

The 32 year old, who suffered from paranoid schizophrenia, died after being restrained at Heavitree Road Police Station in October 2012.

The jury returned a not guilty verdict in the case after a six week trial at Bristol Crown Court.
