Casualties are wing-boarder and cliff-faller

A wing boarder in difficulty off Orcombe Point, Exmouth and a man who had fallen from Langstone Rocks near Dawlish both have the RNLI to thank after being rescued on Saturday.

Exmouth's inshore lifeboat was on exercise off Exmouth seafront when they spotted the wing boarder apparently in difficulty at around 1.45 p.m.

For RNLI volunteer Jake Butt, it was his first live assignment following successful completion of crew training.

After being spotted and asking for help, the wing boarder was taken to the safety of Hang Time slipway. The operation took less than quarter of an hour, with the lifeboat back in service by 2 p.m.

Less than two hours later, the coastguard asked the RNLI to help a 48 year old man who had slipped and fallen on rock armour off Langstone Rock,

The Exmouth inshore lifeboat team was assisted by Dawlish Coastguard Rescue Team and a hazardous area response team, as well as a crew from Exmouth's all-weather lifeboat

The casualty, who had ankle injuries, was taken on board a lifeboat and taken to Dawlish Warren slipway from where he was taken to hospital by ambulance.
