Exeter to benefit from regional broadband boost

Faster broadband speeds could be on the way soon for areas of Exeter, and mid and east Devon, currently not served with high-speed connections.

A 94 million pound project to transform the service across Devon and Somerset has been announced this morning.

The superfast broadband project is expected to create jobs and give the economy a boost of up to 750 million pounds.

It aims to deliver high speed fibre broadband to about 90 per cent of premises by the end of 2016.

It's resulted from a partnership between the two county councils - each of whom have invested 10 million pounds - and BT who're contributing 41 million pounds.

32 million is being put in by the Government.

This programme is likely to bring improvements to the exchanges not earmarked for upgrades within BT's commercial programme - including those in Exminster and Kennford.
